Materials
THz had patented materials technology in both optical polymer and sol-gel silica: two of the key materials for the next generation of Planar Lightwave Circuits (PLCs).
Polymer: THz had a new thermo-optic polymer for PLCs that exhibits low loss. It is also stable at temperatures up to 300oC so that it can withstand the thermal stresses of device integration. Polymer is used in dynamic devices (VOAs and switches) and to athermalise devices such as AWGs.
Sol-gel: THz are able to deposit low birefringence thick layers of pure silica on silicon. Because it uses a solution as the reaction medium instead of gas, the process is simpler, more economical and more environmentally friendly than other silica on silicon processes.
